Purpose of the role 

  • To plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the IT Department; administer the IT budget, staff and physical facilities of the department.
  • Direct and manage computing and information technology strategic plans, policies, programs and schedules for business and finance, development and data processing, computer services, network communications, and management information services to accomplish corporate goals and objectives.
  • Develop strategic plans and implement the objectives of the information technology needs of the company to ensure the computer capabilities are responsive to the needs of the company’s growth and objectives.
  • Evaluate overall operations of computing and information technology functions and recommend enhancements.
  • Advise senior management on strategic systems conversions and integrations in support of business goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities

  • Help teams to make sure Dr Foster quality standards are adhered to
  • Hiring, mentoring, nurturing and successfully retaining the team’s best talent, through regular performance management, 1-2-1 meetings, identifying development needs when needed.
  • Inspire the teams to deliver and foster a culture of accountability in our people and teams to ensure we meet our customers’ needs and deliver what we set out to achieve
  • Direct, attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities;
  • To manage the company’s network infrastructure, including virtual hosts, Wifi, firewall and switches.
  • To manage the company’s IT hardware and software asset registers
  • To be responsible for physical and virtual network security, carefully managing the risks associated with Data Protection and GDPR regulations.
  • To manage the company’s Microsoft-based services, including Windows Server/Desktop, Active Directory and Office 365.To manage company-wide communication systems, including internal telephone systems and e-mail, which currently utilises Office 365.
  • Responsible for the development, review, and certification of all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
  • To detect, isolate and correct faults/errors/security issues in the network infrastructure.
  • To maintain up to date asset registers of equipment and hardware maintenance agreements for all Company computer equipment.
  • To monitor network performance and usage using appropriate software, identify problems and analyse the requirements for enhanced facilities and to provide advice to Company management on solutions pertinent to the Company’s needs.
  • To liaise with, assess and manage suppliers and other outside bodies.
  • Negotiate service level agreements with external customers and service providers and monitor service delivery to ensure that agreed targets and standards are met.
  • Review and negotiate major contracts for computing and information technology services and equipment.
  • Responsible for researching and evaluating new technologies, attending workshops and keeping up to date with Information Technology Issues.
  • Working with the DevOps teams to facilitate automated provision of virtual infrastructure on premise and in the cloud.

Policies, procedures & standards

  • Direct the preparation and implementation of operating policies, processes, procedures and standards relating to information and telecommunication systems.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures aligned to ISO27001.
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees.

Knowledge and Skills Required
(To effectively perform the role, the position holder must have the following skills, experience, qualification)

  • Proven senior IT Management experience.
  • A proven track record of driving and defining complex IT strategy.
  • Budgetary & licensing experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills are essential in order to explain complex IT concepts to non -technical colleagues.
  • Experience of managing multiple IT disciplines i.e. software development, technical support, systems architecture etc.
  • A broad understanding of computer systems, applications and operating systems.
  • Familiarity with IT service delivery models and standards (ITIL & ISO).In depth experience of negotiating with and managing third parties
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Knowledge and experience of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Knowledge of information technology computer systems and software and the ability to manage the entire spectrum of information technology operations.
  • Experience with implementation of information technology integrations in a large division/company.
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Requires a combination of the completion of a Masters Degree in information technology or computer science and ten years of experience in a senior-level information technology position.
